Recommend "Flight Patterns"

Among the stories I have read, I would recommend “Flight Patterns” to my friend. I would recommend “Flight Patterns” to my friend because of the story deals with modern day stereotypes, which we all deal with today. I enjoy how each character develops throughout the story and think that my friend can relate to William’s character. Using characterization, William’s character is pretty much revealed and we know almost everything about him.
The story starts off describing William’s life and continues on with William getting ready to leave for the airport and saying his goodbyes to his wife and daughter. The main part of the story then comes when Williams enters a cab and starts the conversation with the cab driver, Fekadu.
The literary concept in this story is mainly Characterization. The story has details of each character. The actions and descriptions of each character reveal a lot about them and their conversation with one another reveals many things about them. Williams’s conversation with his wife reveals that he really loves her, but they can joke around and his conversation with his daughter reveals that that they both love each other and she is actually pretty smart for her age. The conversation with Fedaku reveals many things about William. How they both get stereotype and hate it, but also stereotypes others. Being a Third person omniscient, the narrator describes each character, especially William, in dept so that we know almost everything about them.
I would recommend this story to my friend because since the author uses characterization, we can find out who the characters are and in this story I think that my friends can relate to the characters and the story deals with stereotypes where we can all relate too.

FaceBook of Bartleby

From Reading the story of "Bartleby the Scrivener" I assumed that Bartleby has really no friends or family nearby. The story does not give that much information about Bartleby, but from what I have read, Bartleby seems like a very boring person who really just follows his own rules. His status could be his quote "I would prefer not to". His friends could be maybe only some of his co-workers who added him because there are just some people who add everyone they see on facebook. Most likely he would not have any pictures of him because he has no friends that would take pictures of him. With no picture, he will not have an album. His wall is going to be usually blank because no know is going to write since he does not have any friends. The only things that might be on his wall are his updates of what he is doing such as “I am staring at a wall” and “I am at the office”. There sometimes will be one or two people who will write on his walls because there are just some people who write on everyone’s walls. Of course Bartlby will probably not reply back. His info is going to be just his network, birthday, and sex because those info were automatically added when the facebook was made and does not want to add any other information about him. His profile picture is going to be blank because he does not want a picture of himself.

Liar Liar

Can you tell when someone is lying? Can you tell when someone is faking his or her personality? There are so many people who cannot be trusted because they constantly lie and are only nice to get things they want. Montresor is that person.
Montresor is quite the interesting character. Throughout the short story he was deceitful, but cunning. He tricks Fortunato in many ways such as luring Fortunato to the catacombs. I believe most of the time throughout the story that Montresor is not telling the truth.
Right in the beginning, Montresor vowed for revenge and most characters who vowed for revenge cannot be trusted and revenge is usually associated as something as bad. Montresor vowed for revenge for Fortunato, but he was being a phony to Fortunato by complementing him and acting as if he was glad that he met him. Phonies cannot be trusted because one cannot if they are actually telling the truth or not.
“My own fancy grew warm with the Medoc” line 51. Being intoxicated can severely disarrange one’s actions. Montresor became intoxicated by drink some French wine. So anything after line 51, Montresor’s words cannot be trusted. He was drunk and everything he said is probably a lie. Also Montresor is probably lying when he said Fortunato was a connoisseur of wine because most connoisseur of wine would take their time to taste the wine rather than like Fortunato who drank the wine quickly. This part already shows that Montresor is a liar.
People who feel no remorse cannot be trusted. As Montresor finally finished up putting Fortunato into the wall Montresor said “My heart grew sick; it was the dampness of the catacombs that made it so”. Montresor felt no remorse from killing someone. Murders lie constantly to get away from justice making them not trustworthy.

Intro for "That time of year thou mayst in me behold"

Before you die, will your whole life flash before your eyes? When you are near the end of your life, will you think about the past and have nostalgic feelings for your old days?
In some movies and books, the elderly are shown as people who are happy because they have lived a successful lifestyle and have done everything they have wanted. Is that actually true or is it lie? Are the elderly actually happy knowing that their lives are about to end and are all these movies and books all lies and deceit. Being young is great, but aging is the process of life so should one always accept it. People think that being immortal is amazing, but is it? In the movie Bicentennial Man, a robot that soon turns into a human with feelings wants to age and die because he has lived too long and wants to feel the process of aging and death. But in many movies such as Highlander, people kill each other and cause chaos just so they can live forever. Is it that people who live successful lives are not afraid of death and people who fear death because they have not accomplish what they wanted to do in life?

In William Shakespeare’s “That time of year thou mayst in me behold”, the poem can be interpreted about how one reaches old age and he or she will miss youth and how one should take advantage or his or her youth. Shakespeare skillfully used many metaphors throughout the poem and doing it in a way by using images for a touching and affecting feeling. The images in “That time of year thou mayst in me behold” plays a significant part in the poem because one must compare images and think about what each images symbolize.

Oh Seth

Oh, Seth hopefully you get laid
Then you will finally become a man
Remember Seth stay calm and do not be afraid

As the night went on and as it fade
Seth you might be able to do a girl name ann
Oh, Seth hopefully you get laid

When Seth wanted some alcohol, you were betrayed
Mclovin was suppose to buy some booze, but did not even get a beer can
Remember Seth stay calm and do not be afraid

Now Seth needed booze, so he went into a house to invade
Seth got some booze, but had to ran
Oh, Seth hopefully you get laid

Finally Seth got to the party, but cops came and Seth had to hide in the Shade
Instead of leaving the party with a girl, Seth left with his best friend a man
Remember Seth stay calm and do not be afraid

Seth came home and realized he had been played
Instead of listening to Ann, Seth should have gone with diane
Oh, Seth hopefully you get laid
Remember Seth stay calm and do not be afraid

I chose this fictional character, because when I heard that Villanelle is usually comical, Super Bad popped into my mind. I think that Super Bad is one of the funniest movie I ever seen and since Villanelle works well with comedy I decided a character from Super would be in my Villanelle.

The Tyger

In William Blake’s The Tyger, The paradox of when Blake ask if the god made both does imply the binary of good and evil.

There are many implication of god throughout the poem such as the words immortal and with all the questions which only god would be only able to answer.
When the poet asks “Did he who made the Lamb make thee”, I assume that the Blake means that god, who made the lamb, also made the tyger, but questions why god would also make the tiger. The lamb usually is the symbol of good and moral, and even as Christ is some aspects, while the tiger is picture as a carnivorous animal is describe in the poem as evil. When Blake wrote about how the tyger was made, I believe the hammer, furnace, and chain are not machine related but rather are more symbolic images. I feel like those things symbolize hell because using the hammer and furnace usually requires fire and fire is usually analyzed as hell or some type of evil. So I think that the tiger is not made from machines but rather from hell and is the form of evil, while the lamb is the symbol of good because the lamb could possibly be Christ and lambs are usually associated with good.

In the fifth stanza, Blake wrote “Did he smile his work to see?” I believe Blake ask god why he would create such evil. I believe Blake poem is about the unity of good and evil. How there cannot be good without evil and that one cannot exist without the other.
I believe the picture of the tiger is not supposed to be interpreted as a robotic/idiotic tiger. I think that the tiger eyes are glaring at something and give off a chilling and eerie feeling as something evil would do.

pro modern and anti modern

For Ezra Pound's "In a Station of the Metro", it can be interpreted into a modern poem or an anti modern poem.

"The apparition of these faces in the crowd; Petals on a wet, black bough". Pound can be comparing the appearances on the new faces of the crowd in the subway station to the "Petals on a wet, black bough", which can mean many things. Petals usually do not grow on bough but rather on flowers. A flower is usually interpreted as something attractive and pure. Instead of the petals growing on a beautiful flower, it is growing on a black, usually associated as evil, unappealing bough. This can be interpreted that the appearance are the petals and the bough is the face so meaning that the appearances do not match the face and is quite the complete opposite.

The poem can be pro modern. This can be translated that there are women or different races down in the subway, where usually white males are. Times are changing when women and other races than Caucasian can be down in the subway to go to work, travel, and just enjoy life rather than being stuck at home or not allowed to go on the subway because of their ethnicity.

This poem can also be interpreted into an anti modernity. The appearances on the faces in the crowd which is compared to the petals on the bough can be translated that some types of people do not belong in the station of the subway. In the early 20th century, metro was built; males in France were probably the main workforce. So to get to work the men had to ride the metro. But sometimes there were women riding and in the early 20th century that was unfit and wrong. Women were not suppose to go on the metro, but instead were suppose to stay at home being the housekeeper. So the women in the crowd in the subway do not belong there.
